from temecula to thailand through my lens

photo of the day

white flower

i absolutely love taking photos of flowers. armed with canon’s new eos 7d, i shot this yesterday at hart winery in temecula.

vineyard sunset

the season is definitely changing. after a rainy morning, the sun broke through for a crisp autumn afternoon. this was last evening’s sunset at doffo winery in temecula, ca.

orange beach sunrise

the gulf coast clean-up efforts continue, with crews cleaning the sand six feet deep. the beach looks beautiful and completion is expected by january 1, 2011.

temecula golden vines

the temecula winegrowers association’s 20th annual harvest celebration kicked off yesterday with more than 30 participating wineries offering wine and food. the vines were beautiful along the driveway to palumbo family winery.

i stayed at the beautiful inn at abeja in walla walla, washington. i just loved the feel of these two chairs on the patio.

lavender dusk

we stopped at walla walla vintners this past thursday for pizza and wine. i thought the combination of lavender in the foreground with the vineyards and sky was stunning.

fountain at barking frog

the wine bloggers conference in walla walla was an incredible experience. heading east from seattle, we stopped for lunch at the barking frog in woodinville.

maine islands

day two on the schooner stephen taber, we anchored just off calderwood island preserve. this is one of the views from the island.

maine sunrise

the first morning after sailing on the historic schooner stephen taber, the sun rose above a clear blue sky. the rest of the day was gorgeous.

stephen taber

we set sail a week ago thursday from rockland, maine on the historic schooner stephen taber. gray skies did not detract from the magnificence of this vessel.

lobster buoys

we visited ship to shore in rockland, maine, a spot where fisherman can unload their catch and buy bait. these buoys were hanging off the roof, memories of earlier times.

independence day

i took a series of american flag photos on a recent visit to rockland, maine.

night harbor

we dined at rockland, maine’s newly opened “the pearl” on the historic waterfront. this is the view when you walk outside.

years ago, i used to grab my camera every morning and go for a walk, taking pictures of things that caught my eye. i shot this in the georgetown area of washington, dc. it’s a habit i want to resume.

jamaican window

i went on a photographic field trip outside negril, jamaica a few years back. we stopped at an old fort and lighthouse and i thought this window in the ruins of a building was gorgeous.

it won’t be long

the vines are dormant now, but in a few short months we will witness bud break. this picture was taken early in the growing season last year at la cereza winery.

spring is just around the corner. I can’t wait to see the flowers start to bloom.

bali lotus

the lotus is one of the most exquisite flowers i have ever seen. i took this shot when I visited bali in 2004.

iron hawk

as you drive into la cresta near the majestic santa rosa plateau, an iron hawk is there to greet you.

driving the clydesdales

at the 2006 temecula valley balloon and wine festival, the budweiser clydesdales made an appearance. i love the dalmation.

sunrise over canyon lake

early one september morning in 2005, i captured the sunrise at canyon lake, ca.

orcas fog

the san juan islands in washington state are unparalleled for their natural beauty. i shot this one foggy morning on orcas island.

quintana roo hibiscus

we visited xcaret in the state of quintana roo, mexico a few years ago. it’s a huge park, with beautiful flowers, birds, a river you can float down, swimming with dolphins and a theater. this hibiscus was one of the prettiest i have ever seen.

napa vines

it’s hard to get tired of looking at grape vines. these are from corison winery in the napa valley last october.
