while walking out to fetch the morning papers, i spied a baby snail atop a newly opened bird of paradise.

on a tour of old town temecula, we sipped wine on the patio of villa di calabro. these gorgeous purple flowers caught my eye.

i love the light at dusk. i took this shot at wilson creek winery thursday evening while folks were gathered to enjoy the release of two new sparkling wines.

had lunch with the family friday at stone brewing in escondido. the grounds are beautiful and the bottle brush was magnificent.

my nephew graduated from bard college in upstate new york in 2007. the campus is lovely, and i took this photo near a lake. i’ve been told it’s allium, a member of the onion family.

there are few flowers prettier than the bird of paradise in my opinion. we saw hundreds of them at club marena south of rosarito beach in baja california, mexico.
alabama flower
i took a golf cart tour of the hugh s. branyon backcountry trail in orange beach, alabama. an earlier group had spotted alligators and snakes, but i was content with he foliage i saw.
red geranium
marcelo and zulma doffo held a polenta party for their wine club members yesterday, pouring polenta onto a long table which guests ate without plates. while there, i captured this shot of a geranium.

before visiting the far east, i thought water lilies came in only one color – white. i saw this pink lily in ubud, bali, as well as some breathtaking blue ones.

one of my favorite flowers. there’s one called a spider lily in hawaii that looks totally different. i shot this in negril, jamaica almost six years ago.
nova scotia fall colors
our last stop on an amazing day today was at tangled garden in wolfville, nova scotia. beverly mcclare and her crew create such tasty delights from their herb garden. the weather has been incredible with highs in the 80s.

i wish i knew the name of these flowers. when i visited bali in 2004, i was overwhelmed by how many beautiful flowers there were, many of which i had never before seen.
a rose by any other name
on a recent visit to paso robles, we stopped to visit denis degher at domaine degher. this rose caught my eye.
lotus stem
on a visit to cambodia in 2005, i went out looking for lotuses. they are one of the most beautiful flowers i have ever seen, even after all of the petals have dropped.
