had lunch with the family friday at stone brewing in escondido. the grounds are beautiful and the bottle brush was magnificent.

last sunday was a glorious day at dorland mountain arts colony. in the late afternoon i caught the sun peeking through the branches of an oak tree.

it was about a month ago we were in new orleans for the jazz & heritage festival. laura stopped to get a psychic reading at the bottom of the cup in the french quarter.


dorland

the dorland mountain arts colony in temecula was  wiped out by a fire in 2004. with two of its eight cabins rebuilt, dorland is on the way back. we visited yesterday on a picture perfect day.


missouri flora

in my second day in lake ozark, missouri, i saw this beautiful flower at the inn at harbour ridge. i believe it’s a honeysuckle.

i arrived in lake of the ozarks, missouri yesterday with a group of food, wine and travel writers. the sunset from the duck restaurant was spellbinding.

new orleans jazz fest 2011

we attended both weekends, seven days, of the 2011 new orleans jazz and heritage festival. there were many magical moments. here’s john fohl with “jumpin’” johnny sansone in the blues tent.


Arcade Fire

i spent seven days enjoying the new orleans jazz and heritage festival. there were so many amazing performances, not the least of which came from arcade fire.

 


french quarter dome

in new orleans for the 2011 jazz and heritage music festival. walking down carondolet street at dusk, this dome caught my eye.


going up

in about six weeks the annual temecula balloon and wine festival will be underway, filling the sky with hot air balloons. sometimes fog tries to be a spoiler, but it’s always a gorgeous sight.


monkey forest road

in 2004 i visited bali and stayed at the ubud inn on monkey forest road. it is aptly named.

reality stars who participated in reality rally gathered at temecula’s monte de oro winery this morning. nearly a dozen hot air balloons were aloft.

old town temecula certified farmers market every saturday… love love love famers market.


fast armadillo

we drove through luckenbach, texas a few years ago and had to stop when we saw a sign advertising a fast armadillo. alas, we couldn’t find monroe to ask him where the armadillo was.

 


starting anew

we visited leonesse cellars in temecula, the setting for may 21st’s field to the fork event for slow food temecula valley. it’s such a treat every year to see new life spring from the vines.

 


fort morgan

on a visit to alabama’s gulf coast, we stopped at fort morgan. i loved the way the sun hit battery duportail.


lake benessere

on a recent visit to paso robles and the napa valley, we were greeted by torrential rains. here’s what the vineyard at benessere winery in st. helena looked like.

taken this past sunday on the patio at danza del sol winery. is it any wonder this is our state flower?
